Caterpillar has always been famous for its industrial smartphones. Rigid, strong and functional – this is the basis of all electronic devices of the brand.

For MWC 2018, Caterpillar has prepared an updated generation of smartphones with a thermal imager – the CAT S61 model.

The original CAT S60 was introduced back in 2016. The highlight of the device was the thermal imager module from FLIR. The sensor is able to detect temperature changes ranging from -20°С to 400°С. At the same time, the picture is shown with an enviable HD resolution.

Characteristics of CAT S60:

  • Display: 5.2” Full HD, sensor works even with wet fingers
  • Camera: 16 + 8 MP (main / selfie respectively)
  • CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 630
  • Memory: 4/64 GB (operational, built-in)
  • Additionally: NFC, thermal imager, air pollution level, rangefinder
  • Battery: 4 500 mAh
  • OS: Android 8.0

CAT S61 will receive the same sensor, and at the same time some more interesting sensors. Firstly, the smartphone has a laser rangefinder, effective at a distance of up to 10 meters. Secondly, the device has a built-in air pollution level sensor from Sensirion.

Another advantage of the novelty is that the smartphone is very difficult to break. It can withstand drops from a height of 1.8 meters onto concrete. In addition, it is not afraid of water and can spend about an hour at a depth of up to three meters without damage.

The CAT S61 will be on sale in the second quarter of 2018. For not the most recent processor and a number of unique features, Caterpillar asked for $1000. The price is the same as the iPhone X in the US, excluding taxes. True, the functionality of CAT S61 is capable of more than animoji and Face ID. [Cat]
