Microsoft is more than confident that the Surface Pro 3 can become a strong competitor and even a worthy replacement not only for the iPad, but also for the MacBook Air. In this context, the company has launched a promotion aimed at drawing attention to its tablet/laptop hybrid. So, Microsoft offers everyone to exchange their used MacBook Air for brand new Surface Pro 3 and save up to $650.
Microsoft ran a similar promotion last September when it offered a trade-in for used iPads for Surface RT and Pro tablets. Back then, consumers were offered a $200 discount on Surface products. Now, judging by the new conditions of the initiative, Microsoft is positioning its tablet as a direct competitor to Apple’s line of ultra-thin laptops.
The situation is such that at a price of $799, the junior Surface Pro 3 model equipped with a processor Intel Core i3will cost consumers $100 cheaper than the 11-inch MacBook Air in the minimum configuration, and at $200 cheaper than the 13-inch MacBook Air. Based on the maximum exchange value of used aluminum laptops and the price of Microsoft’s entry-level tablet, a customer can get a Surface Pro 3 for $150. But the catch is that this promotion is only offering consumers the Surface Pro 3 model with the chip. Intel Core i5 on board and for the price of $999 and $1299 depending on configuration. It is not clear if other convertible tablet models currently on pre-order will be available as part of this offer.
Microsoft announced the Surface Pro 3 in May. Then the CEO of the corporation panos panay introduced the novelty as a gadget suitable for both tablet fans and laptop users. In fact, it is presented as a simultaneous replacement for both devices.
Compared to the 13-inch MacBook Air, Microsoft’s new tablet weighs significantly less – just 800 g. The device has an original accessory in the form of a magnetic cover with a built-in keyboard, a stylus is supported, and the operating system is Windows 8.1 Pro. Thus, the offer from Microsoft may seem attractive and interesting to those who are not particularly attached to the Apple brand or are simply ready to upgrade their battered MacBook Air.
This promotion is valid only at Microsoft Stores in the US and Canada, and each customer can only exchange one used MacBook Air for a new Surface Pro 3 tablet. The offer is valid until July 31, although Microsoft has a history of extending successful shares. Finally, according to Microsoft representatives, the amount of the discount offered may vary depending on the condition of the laptops returned.
