This August UI Centric pleased users who are waiting for the appearance of functional tablets with a full-fledged Windows 7 operating system, the original Macallan interface for devices of this kind. Of course, the convenience of its operation raised questions in many respects, but the focus on finger control and the interesting idea of turning page-windows intrigued. Unfortunately, the intrigue turned into zilch.

UI Centric promised to complete work on its product before the end of the third quarter, which has already ended, but there is no result. Moreover, the company planned to offer not only a software shell to third-party manufacturers, but also its own tablet, maximally adapted to Macallan. According to Engadget, we will definitely not see a tablet from UI Centric. But this is not so sad, because there are alternatives. For example, Slate 500 from HP. It is depressing that there is no information about the future fate of the interface itself. The developer escaped with voluminous promises to tell everything in the near future and make a new announcement.

I hope that the company will still be able to finish what they started. Modern Wintel tablets do not shine with high performance and autonomy, but Intel does not stand still and its future x86-compatible Atom SoC systems promise to be much more interesting and quite competitive against the background of currently popular solutions based on the ARM architecture. After all, it would be nice to get some analogue of the iPad in terms of ease of use, but running Windows. Although, iOS is also actively developing and perhaps in a couple of years its tablet functionality will increase significantly. [Engadget]
