While the Apple iPad is diligently winning the hearts of millions of users, competitors are throwing announcements, but the deadlines named in them are getting closer, and the first devices should appear as early as next month. One of the most nimble, if you do not take into account the Chinese offices, was the company Velocity Micro, which managed to become famous in the field of powerful gaming stations assembled for individual orders. In August, three tablets from her under the brand name Cruz will enter the market at once.
All three gadgets turned out to be more compact than Apple’s device thanks to a 7-inch display, but in terms of design, at least Cruz Reader very similar to the popular tablet. The body is made of plastic, and the operating system is Google Android (the version is not yet known). First of all, Velocity Micro positions new items as convenient devices for reading books, although the software for this does not stand out as special frills. Got a manufacturer and support from publishers such as Borders and Kobo.
As for the technical component, the devices have nothing to brag about. The display resolution is 800×600 pixels, the Cruz Reader and Cruz StoryPad use a resistive touch panel, and the Cruz Tablet uses a capacitive one. The latest device also includes 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi (the Reader has 802.11b/g, the StoryPad doesn’t have it at all), 4GB of built-in flash memory, and an SD card slot. The other two models do not have integrated storage. Nothing is known about the processor and the amount of RAM, but there is a USB port.
Velocity Micro launches its own app store to support tablets Cruz Market, but whether devices have access to the Android Market is not yet clear. Of course, against the backdrop of the iPad, the new items look pale, although they attract prices from $150 to $300, depending on the model. [Engadget]
