Tired of charging your iPhone twice a day? It’s time to change your smartphone – Highscreen Power Rage Evo works up to 3 days without an outlet!
Highscreen is the only micro-brand whose smartphones I respect. The guys create a niche, very successful product. While buying in foreign online stores is not available for everyone, Highscreen devices are the best choice among budget devices. I went to the store, bought and use.
They also have unique solutions. For example, Highscreen Boost 3. Today it is the only sensible musicphone on the market: Meizu merged after Pro 5, Lenovo X3 is ending, Vivo is not available for Russian buyers. No others for 18K with direct processing of 24bit/192kHz audio stream without downsampling out of the box for all applications.
The hero of this review Highscreen Power Rage Evo from the same legion. A great workhorse for one and all.
Equipment and appearance
I don’t like this item. And I try not to write about the packaging – why describe the box? But the Highscreen team took care of protecting its buyer from cunning sellers of cellular salons.
As you know, it is on accessories that everyone earns. And here you don’t need to buy anything. The Highscreen Power Rage Evo, in addition to the smartphone itself, comes with a whole accessories kaleidoscope: 2 A power supply with a detachable cable, OTG cable, transparent silicone case, protective film, headset and a bunch of waste paper in Russian (including a warranty card).
Highscreen design was developed by ourselves, successfully combining glass and metal. Power Rage Evo is not like most budget smartphones a la bar of soap.
The body of the smartphone is metal, but there are wide plastic inserts to ensure high-quality transmission. The sloping back cover is framed by a stylish beveled side frame. This goes well with jeans and a business suit. The contours are strict, but despite the considerable thickness they provide a comfortable grip.
The logo on the back cover does not irritate at all: stylish, fashionable, youthful. The block of the main camera is protected by the continuation of the insertion of the case and is moved to the upper left corner.
The front surface of the Power Rage Evo is covered with a rounded protective glass with a fashionable edge 2.5D. The smooth surface is broken only by a cutout for the earpiece. The sensors and the front camera are hidden under the glass, as are the touch buttons.
Mechanical controls (power button and volume rocker) are located on the right side. The top end is adorned with a headphone jack, and on the bottom there is a microphone and a microUSB port.
One of the features of Highscreen is a removable back cover, a rarity for modern smartphones. Under it hides a capacious 4000 mAh battery (two times more than the iPhone 7!).
There are also three slots at once: one for a memory card, and two for SIM cards. A rare combination that is not found in any popular device of a major brand, be it Xiaomi, Meizu or even Apple.
A five-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1280×720 (pixel density 294 ppi) is responsible for displaying in the Highscreen Power Rage Evo. For most scenarios, this is enough – who uses such devices for virtual reality headsets?
The picture is pleasing to the eye, and is not distorted at wide angles. The minimum brightness level allows you to read in complete darkness without fatigue. Maximum allows you to use your smartphone in bright sunlight or in a well-lit office.
The manufacturer does not indicate the brand of protective glass. Despite this, scratches when carried in the same pocket with the keys on the screen do not appear. Oleophobic coating, alas, no.
The Power Rage Evo smartphone uses a quad-core processor as the hardware platform MediaTek MT6737 with Mali-T720 graphics. Performance is supported by 3 GB of RAM.
The built-in storage capacity is 16 GB, of which 11.2 GB is available to the user. For expansion, you can use a microSDXC memory card, or connect via USB-OTG.
The headroom is sufficient for most everyday tasks. Departures, interface lags are not observed. Of course, modern games are unlikely to work one hundred percent – but you can also play World Of Tanks.
The sound of Highscreen smartphones is a different story. The Power Rage Evo 1 is not a Boost 3, and there is no dedicated DAC and amplifier to be found here. But the sound in the headphones, during a conversation and on the speakerphone will satisfy any user. No distortion, albeit not very loud. Plus, it’s better than most competitors.
The device is equipped with slots for two micro-SIM cards, one of which can work in LTE networks, while the other is only available for 2.5G. The Wi-Fi adapter only works in one band. But there is a modern Bluetooth 4.1 with support for the Low Energy protocol.
The navigation capabilities of Power Rage Evo are also enhanced in comparison with budget counterparts. Supports work with both GPS and GLONASS. Cold start takes less than 20 seconds. When restarted, 5 seconds are enough to communicate with the satellites.
Power Rage Evo can hardly boast of the special quality of the cameras. However, the main 13-megapixel module is enough for any everyday tasks: you can take a picture of a document and use it instead of a soap dish. The settings of the regular application are standard, familiar to all Android users.
Dual-tone flash allows you to take pictures with good efficiency in difficult lighting conditions and at dusk. In the dark, the situation is somewhat worse – exactly the same as for all smartphones up to 30 thousand. The same can be said about the front camera.
Autonomy is cooler than iPhone 7
Huge 4000 mAh battery – the main advantage of the smartphone. It’s in 2 times morethan the iPhone 7! The HD screen makes the Power Rage Evo an unrealistic long-liver. One has only to look at the battery life in various scenarios:
- HD video viewing in airplane mode – 14 hours;
- streaming video via Wi-Fi – 12 hours;
- viewing streaming video via LTE – 10.5 hours;
- in navigator mode with LTE – 8 hours;
- playing WOT using Wi-Fi – 6 hours.
In mixed mode, the new Highscreen smartphone can work 2-3 days, depending on the brightness level and load. During testing, the smartphone was removed from charging on Saturday morning, and was discharged only on Monday afternoon.
And this is with daily hourly correspondence in messengers, 3-4 hours of listening to music, watching the daily series of Walking Dead and a couple of hours in the browser. All over LTE. Now tell me how many times per day do you charge your iPhone in this scenario?
If necessary, you can buy an additional battery, change it and charge from the outlet once a week. Moreover, charging thanks to the support fast charge it takes no more than an hour and a half.

Buy or not?
When buying a budget smartphone, you always have to make compromises. FROM Highscreen Power Rage Evo you can forget about them. It has everything you need for active use. But most importantly, with such a smartphone, you can forget about constant recharging – an hour and a half once every 2-3 days instead of a permanently connected charger when the outlet is close!
Is this not happiness? When using such a long-liver, you no longer want to switch to another smartphone, no matter what functions it supports. And for only 12 thousand in any salon, without queues and crush.
