On September 7 at the Steve Jobs Theater in California, Apple officially unveiled the iPhone 14 line of smartphones. It included four devices, among which there is no compact mini version – it was replaced by an enlarged version of the base model, called the iPhone 14 Plus. Here’s everything you need to know about what’s new.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus
The base iPhone 14 has a 6.1-inch display, while the iPhone 14 Plus has a 6.7-inch display. In addition to size, they differ slightly in resolution, but are otherwise identical: brightness up to 1200 nits, Dolby Vision support, TrueTone technology, contrast ratio 2000000:1.
Both smartphones retain the familiar notch with Face ID sensors and a 12-megapixel selfie camera, with the latter receiving autofocus for the first time. The overall design of the case is also the same – with flat ends and a glass back panel.
For the first time in many years, new Apple smartphones remained with the old processors, albeit slightly improved – this is the A15 Bionic (5 nm), as in the iPhone 13, but with more powerful graphics (5 cores versus 4 before).
There are two rear cameras: main and wide-angle – both 12 megapixels. The first received an enlarged sensor, F / 1.5 aperture and a new matrix-shift stabilization, previously used only in Pro versions. Evaluate its capabilities will allow the new shooting mode Action Mode.
The manufacturer also notes that the camera captures light 49% better when there is a lack of lighting. And to improve such pictures allows the new technology Photonic Engine.
Both smartphones also received a satellite SOS alert, allowing you to connect to the satellite in emergency situations – without using Wi-Fi and the Internet. The user will be able to send special messages and their location to rescue services, but this will only work in some countries (for now, the US and Canada).
In the US, the iPhone 14 will be released without a SIM card slot – users will only be able to use eSIM with the ability to switch between different operators. Versions for other countries will have a physical slot.
The base iPhone 14 will be released on September 16, while the iPhone 14 Plus will be released on October 7. The prices are as follows:
- iPhone 14: starting at $799;
- iPhone 14 Plus: Starting at $899
iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max
One of the main differences between the Pro-versions of new smartphones is screens with two holes instead of a notch, and they are different in shape. Apple is the first to use this technology, although it has long been used by Android device manufacturers.
The space between the holes will be painted over, forming one dark area in the center of the screen.
The screen sizes are the same as those of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, but the features are slightly different.
The second advantage of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max is the new A16 Bionic processors.
The Pro versions also received improved cameras – each of the three modules has a 48 megapixel main sensor.
The material is being added.
