The developers of the Apollo app, an alternative Reddit client, came up with new use of the Dynamic Island notch in the new iPhone 14 Pro. Small virtual animals were settled on this island.

The feature is called Pixel Pals and is already available to Apollo users who have updated their devices to iOS 16. When enabled, the selected animal appears above the Dynamic Island cutout. You won’t be able to interact with him: he can only wander around Dynamic Island, periodically laying down to lie down or sleep. There are cat, dog, hedgehog, fox and axolotl to choose from.

The virtual pet can also be installed on the iOS 16 lock screen as a widget. This feature is also available for smartphones without Dynamic Island.

This isn’t the first app to play with the notch on the iPhone 14 Pro. For example, recently Hit the Island was released in the App Store, in which Dynamic Island is used as a partner for ping-pong.
