HMD Global, which develops and sells devices under the Nokia brand, is going to leave the Russian market. Kommersant writes about this with reference to several distributors and retailers.
According to sources, HMD Global has launched the process of liquidating the legal entity Eychemdi Mobile Rus LLC, which was engaged in the supply of Nokia smartphones and push-button phones.
The company’s devices occupied a small share in the Russian market: in just 2021, Nokia smartphone models accounted for only 0.6% of all sales of Android devices. Push-button dialers had a much larger share in their segment – 16.5%.
Mobile device market experts suggest that retailers will not engage in parallel imports of Nokia phones, preferring cheaper Chinese brands. In other words, the gadgets of the once legendary brand may completely disappear from the shelves in Russia.
Earlier, the Finnish manufacturer of telecom equipment Nokia also announced that it would stop doing business in Russia until the end of the year.
