In 2018, Nissan’s electric cars will have a particularly large number of eco-friendly competitors, among them the new Opel Ampera-E and Tesla Model 3. The Japanese manufacturer’s response is the release of the second generation Nissan Leaf and further improvement of the model.
Nissan Leaf 2.5: One-Pedal Smart Electric Car
Compared to its seven-year-old predecessor, the new Nissan has received major changes: the ProPILOT system is able to keep the car in the selected lane, maintain a distance from the vehicle in front and park the electric car in seconds. Nissan developers are particularly proud of the new ePedal, which doubles as a gas and brake pedal.
The electric car’s engine has also been improved and now has a power of 110 kW with a torque of 320 Nm. In addition, the new 40 kWh battery should provide up to 240 km of range on a single charge. Compared to Nissan’s direct competitors, this is far from a record: the Tesla Model 3, which sells for about the same price, promises about 355 kilometers, and the Opel Ampera-E even more.
Of course, Nissan did not tolerate this situation for long, and according to the presentation of the Japanese concern provided to the PushEVs news portal, the developers are already planning to release another Leaf model soon to catch up with their competitors.
Nissan Leaf E-Plus: more mileage and more power
The new E-Plus version of the Nissan Leaf will have a 64 kWh battery that can be charged up to 100 kW. Thus, the range of an electric car in everyday driving will increase to about 360 kilometers – this is slightly more than the measured values of the Tesla Model 3.
But that’s not enough: Nissan wants to equip the new Leaf with a more powerful electric motor. Instead of 110 kW in the future, the developers promise 160 kW, thanks to which the Leaf will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.5 seconds (now – 8.5 seconds). For comparison: Opel Ampera-E has a power of 150 kW, and Tesla Model 3 – 192 kW.
The improved equipment of the new Nissan model will also affect the price of the electric car: the Leaf 2.5 will cost about 35,000 euros, which is 5,000 euros more than the current model. Most likely, the novelty will appear on the market at the end of this year.
CHIP: New Nissan model is a great solutionThe Nissan Leaf is the best-selling electric car in the world. But the Japanese do not rest on their laurels and are serious about competition in the low price segment. In our opinion, the decision to further refine the new Leaf model is completely correct. And now is the perfect moment: Opel is still making the Ampera-E too long to wait, and Tesla’s Model 3 is too slow to go from production to market. If both of these manufacturers can’t keep up with regular deliveries of their vehicles over the next few months, then the path for the new Nissan Leaf will be completely open. |
